On-the-fly Probabilistic Model Checking

چکیده
Model checking approaches can be divided into two broad categories: global approaches that determine the set of all states in a model M that satisfy a temporal logic formula Φ, and local approaches in which, given a state s in M , the procedure determines whether s satisfies Φ. When s is a term of a process language, the model-checking procedure can be executed “on-the-fly”, driven by the syntactical structure of s. For certain classes of systems, e.g. those composed of many parallel components, the local approach is preferable because, depending on the specific property, it may be sufficient to generate and inspect only a relatively small part of the state space. We propose an efficient, on-thefly, PCTL model checking procedure that is parametric with respect to the semantic interpretation of the language. The procedure comprises both bounded and unbounded until modalities. The correctness of the procedure is shown and its efficiency is compared with a global PCTL model checker on representative applications.

On-the-fly Fast Mean-Field Model-Checking
A novel, scalable, on-the-fly model-checking procedure is presented to verify bounded PCTL properties of selected individuals in the context of very large systems of independent interacting objects. The proposed procedure combines on-the-fly model checking techniques with deterministic mean-field approximation in discrete time. The asymptotic correctness of the procedure is shown and some resul...
متن کاملOn-the-Fly Model Checking for Extended Action-Based Probabilistic Operators
The quantitative analysis of concurrent systems requires expressive and user-friendly property languages combining temporal, datahandling, and quantitative aspects. In this paper, we aim at facilitating the quantitative analysis of systems modeled as PTSs (Probabilistic Transition Systems) labeled by actions containing data values and probabilities. We propose a new regular probabilistic operat...
متن کاملBounded Model Checking for Probabilistic Programs
In this paper we investigate the applicability of standard model checking approaches to verifying properties in probabilistic programming. As the operational model for a standard probabilistic program is a potentially infinite parametric Markov decision process, no direct adaption of existing techniques is possible. Therefore, we propose an on– the–fly approach where the operational model is su...
متن کاملAnalysis of Probabilistic Error Checking Procedures on Storage Systems
Conventionally, error checking on storage systems is performed on-the-fly (with probability 1) as the storage system is being accessed in order to improve the reliability of the storage system. However, such a procedure may needlessly cause degraded performance due to the extra processing time needed for executing the error checking code. In this paper, we consider fault-tolerant storage system...
متن کاملOn the Synergy of Probabilistic Causality Computation and Causality Checking
In recent work on the safety analysis of systems we have shown how causal relationships amongst events can be algorithmically inferred from probabilistic counterexamples and subsequently be mapped to fault trees. The resulting fault trees were significantly smaller and hence easier to understand than the corresponding probabilistic counterexample, but still contain all information needed to dis...
